Young People
We try to make everyone welcome in our Church, without
distinction, but obviously some activities are more suited to some age groups
than others. This page is about what young people are doing in the Church. You
might also want to visit the Methodist Church's
website for children.
Our young people are active in the local
community - and in global issues! Just a few recent activities:

CAR WASH
The young people went out offering to
wash the neighbours cars - no strings attached, just wanting to do a good
deed for the people who live near the Church. Some people took the offer
up, and some found it hard to believe we weren't after money! It was a
great afternoon, and we'll be doing it again.

A WORLD ON THE MOVE
This was the theme for Racial Justice
Sunday this year (9th September). In preparation for that, young people
aged 9 - 19 came to Lancaster Methodist Church to learn more about people
trafficking, to campaign on these issues and to come together to worship
God with other young Christians passionate about justice issues. Groups
involved in the event were Methodist Church national equalities and
diversity project, URC children and young people's training officer
(North), Ripley CofE School Chaplains, young people from Methodist
Churches in Preston, Dolphinholme, Lancaster, Fence, and young people from
Ripley CofE School worship group.

CHECK YOUR CHOCOLATE!
One form of trafficking is the use of
children to harvest the cocoa beans on farms in Cote D'Ivoire. These
children are likely to be working to make your chocolate. Our young people
have been campaigning against this trade.
The masks show the face of Chaga, the
trafficked child in the story of
Chaga
and the Chocolate Factory. His face is a haunting reminder of the 12,000
trafficked children who are working on cocoa plantations today. |

with Chaga - and all those like him |
We have an active Junior Church which meets
on Sunday mornings. Usually young people take part in the first part of the
service and then go downstairs for separate activities. They always rejoin the
congregation for communion. During services there is a children's corner
available with toys and things for them to do - and the right size furniture!
(see below)

The Youth Fellowship meets on Sunday
mornings and all young people in high school are welcome to attend.
Leaders of the Youth Fellowship are Chris
Brookbanks and Alison Parker.
The Music Group helps to lead our worship, and many
young people take part. The group also helps to lead worship in other churches
in the Circuit from time to time, and last year played for the District
service held in Blackburn Cathedral.
