Our Community

We belong to both the local and the global community - and we aim to serve people both locally and globally.

Service in the local community

Exemplified by our work at The Cornerstone - in 2007 we formed a partnership with three key local charities, committing ourselves to working with them and opening our building for their use. Currently our main partner is Thumbprint, whose members are people with learning difficulties running their own small social enterprises.

There are also lots of other associated users, including the local ME and MS Groups and Lancaster Street Pastors. We open from 10.30-3.00 every Tuesday and Wednesday for coffee, tea, cakes and light lunches - and as a sanctuary in the city for anyone wanting support, or just someone to talk to. Drop in and join us!

Service in the global community

We have strong links with Uruguay, particularly the Methodist Church at Teniente Rinaldi (see right). Each year we offer support to a particularly needy community overseas. In 2011 this was Stepping Stones Nigeria, which seeks to save and transform the lives of street children in the Niger delta area.

We support Christian Aid, the Methodist Relief & Development Fund and other charities. Our members often take part in national events, like the ‘Make Poverty History’ rallies. Our young people are raising money to support a child from Chernobyl to visit Lancaster during 2012 for rest and recuperation.
